The "Problem" with our Homeschooling

Today I tried to work on a lesson from our reading program with JPD. He convinced me that we should, instead, build a spaceship. (I didn't have time to do both.)

The thing is, it's not hard to convince me that we should build a spaceship instead of working on reading. When you're five years old, what could be a better way to spend an afternoon?

P.S. We love these building card sets from Klutz. We have all of them: the spaceship, castle, pirate ship, and Hogwarts sets.

  1. I think building the spaceship was by far the better idea! Especially for a 5 year old boy. And an awfully cute one at that.

  4. Have you looked into the Montessori teaching philosophy at all? My lil one isn't old enough for school yet (4 months) so I don't have the best grasp. Essentially it comes down to there being windows for teaching opportunities where the child is more interested in one topic than another. You allow for a little child directed educational opportunities to best utilize their interest and desire to learn in that area. i.e. a particular interest in problem solving, spatial relationships etc, relating to math/physics development. If we are blessed to have a situation that allows homeschooling I'll be doing quite a bit more research on the subject.
(p.s. wandered over from Conversion Diary tonight and I've enjoyed looking around here!)
